Groups give spotlight to Guard deaths in Iraq

… At the "Eyes Wide Open" exhibit at Nollen Plaza, 233 pairs of boots were displayed in rows, a pair for each National Guard member who has died in Iraq. Attached to the laces on each pair was a tag with the officer's name, year of death and home state. Included were boots for Spc. Casey Byers of Schleswig, who was killed June 11.

The event, being held in conjunction with the National Governors Association annual meeting, is to bring attention to the number of National Guard members who have died in the war. ...
