Dingwerth attributes that to two reasons. The Art Association of Richmond always had a large group of active female artists, and he believes Richmond's Quaker tradition of equality was part of the art association's mindset. Women received an equal opportunity to show their works alongside men at the museum's annual exhibition of area artists, he said.

Local artists featured in this show include Olive Rush, the Overbeck sisters, Beulah Brown, Lillian Davidson, Carolyn Bradley, Maude Eggemeyer, Edna Cathell, Anna Newman and Winifred Brady Adams.

Richmond artist Nancy Adkins said she wasn't familiar with most of the featured artists' works but liked almost all of them.

"I loved it," Adkins said. "I liked the variety and the colors. I was amazed with the variety of work. It was well executed."

Dingwerth said the exhibit is also significant because it's the first time all of Indiana's regional art museums have collaborated on a project. ...
