AFSC/Peace Activities//9/11 vigil follows `Gandhi' showing/Akron Beacon Journal/Akron/OH/USA/10-Sep-06//… The Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee is sponsoring two events to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The first event, the showing of the film Gandhi, is 1 to 5 p.m. today at Our Lady of the Elms High School Auditorium, 1375 W. Market St., Akron. The 100th anniversary of the modern nonviolent movement to seek justice using civil disobedience, launched by Mohandas Gandhi on Sept. 11, 1906, will be honored.

The event also will include a display of original photographs and letters from Gandhi and a discussion of the relevance of nonviolence today.

The second event, a candlelight peace vigil, is 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Federal Building, at South Main and West Market streets in downtown Akron. The vigil will commemorate the lives lost on Sept. 11 and those that followed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
