After the October Summit of the Americas’ failure to revive negotiations for the Free Trade Area of the Americas, the Bush administration took its "free trade" agenda back to the WTO for its meeting in Hong Kong Dec. 13-18.

Alpert said before leaving, "Critics of the WTO system will be in Hong Kong in large numbers, just as we were in Cancun in 2003, and Seattle in 1999, to demand a global economy that works for workers and small farmers, not just for transnational businesses and the governments (that) do their bidding." ...


AFSC/Politics and Economics/Labor/Faith leaders say King ideals consistent with fight for wages/Daily Mail/Charleston/WV/USA/15-Jan-2006//... Rick Wilson of American Friends Service said he believes there is a good chance the Legislature will pass a bill boosting the minimum wage.

"Any time you get this many people out at 8 a.m. on a federal holiday, it means you've got a live issue," he said. "It's an economic and a moral issue. It is justice for working people. There is a good chance the minimum wage will be gradually increased. Similar events are going on around the country to raise minimum wage. Dr. King gave his life in support of working people. There is no better time."
