Arts/Painting/Peace Activities/Roberts, Helen/Project to aid good causes/Bury Free Press/Bury/England/UK/26-May-06/... Children will be invited to paint a stone at the Friends' Meeting House, in Bury St Edmunds, with their own symbols of peace.

The event, on Monday, is the springboard for the Heart Land project, which aims to raise money for the refurbishment of the meeting house and for a coalition of Israeli and Palestinian women working for peace in Jerusalem.

The project is the brainchild of Bury Quaker Helen Roberts, who asked the town's Children's Art Company to help organise the launch event.

Arts/Film/Battle Creek Friends Church/Salmon, Scott/DaVinci Code subject of Sunday sermons across West Michigan/WWMT/Kalamazoo/MI/USA/21-May-06/... "You can't go anywhere without somebody asking you 'have you gone to the movie or have you read the book?" Pastor Scott Salmon told the hundreds gathered at Battle Creek Friends Church Sunday.

The pastor was one of the first to see the film on opening night, Friday. "I'm not against the movie, per se, at all," Salmon explained. "In fact, what I appreciate, and I'd like to thank [author] Dan Brown for doing, is bringing Jesus and the Bible back into the mainstream if you will."

The DaVinci Code, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, has drawn criticism for suggesting Jesus fathered a child. While Salmon admits that belief would shake the foundation Christianity is built upon, he disagrees with protestors who have picketed outside the movie, including a group in Kalamazoo on Friday.

"It proves to other people, you know what, as Christians, you really can't handle research and can't handle an intelligent discussion about the facts. That's not where we want to be," Salmon told the congregation.
Instead, he sees it as an opportunity. "It's a debate and a journey we can engage in as we look for the truth," said the pastor. ...It's the kind of search for answers Salmon hopes continues. A personal search for truths and meaning in spirituality. "Church for a long time has been guilty of telling people what to think," said Salmon. "Instead, I think we're better off encouraging people to think." .......
