Soneson presented practical, ethical, and religious reasons for why he was against the death penalty, quoting Immanuel Kant’s categorical imperative and a Quaker maxim stating, “There is that of God in everyone.” To kill a human being for any reason, he claimed, violates these principles and, “is a profound sin.” ...
