The final speaker was Jerry Soneson, member of Amnesty International and Assoc. Professor of Philosophy and Religion. Soneson presented practical, ethical, and religious reasons for why he was against the death penalty, quoting Immanuel Kant’s categorical imperative and a Quaker maxim stating, “There is that of God in everyone.” To kill a human being for any reason, he claimed, violates these principles and, “is a profound sin.” ...
