Humanitarian Assistance/Youth/LeGrand Friends Church/Smouse, James/Promise Home receives donation/Marshalltown Times Republican/Marshaltown/IA/USA/18-Mar-06//... f"Young people need help," Smouse said. "I wanted to give it away because I'm not going to be able to use it."

Smouse's gift and the drive have contributed to remodeling and refurbishing of the Promise Home and an endowment for its continuing operating expenses.

"This home will be independent of state funds," said Leonard Hadley, state chair of the fund-raising campaign.

Smouse's connection to Quakerdale sprouted from LeGrand Friends Church, a Quaker denomination.

"He and his wife always had an interest in helping disadvantaged children," said Myrna Shope, a neighbor.

The Promise Home has the capacity for 10 boys and girls. ...
