...so they retreat to a “quieter place” — the multi-religious school run by the Scottish Protestant Church. On the school grounds is “a tiny and austere cemetery” where the famed Dr. Thomas Hodgkin (of “Hodgkin’s disease”) is buried “but rarely visited.” Hodgkin, a devout Quaker, had served as personal physician to his good friend Sir Moses Montefiore on several trips to Palestine and died of cholera in Jaffa during his final visit.
