...McCullough also gives welcome attention to two of Washington's equally remarkable officers: Henry Knox, the Boston bookseller who became a superb artillerist by reading textbooks; and Nathanael Greene, a Quaker foundryman who had a mind for strategy. Without Greene in 1776, there would have been no Yorktown in 1781.
